Frequently Asked

What file formats does Book Binder support?

EPUB and PDF are fully supported with in-browser reading. MOBI and CBZ files can be imported and downloaded but do not yet have an in-browser reader. Audiobook support (M4B, MP3) is on the roadmap.

Do I need the Desktop Agent to use Book Binder?

Yes, initially. The agent serves your local files to the web app and uploads a cloud copy the first time you open a book. Once a book has been opened through the agent, it becomes available on any device — including mobile — without the agent running.

Is the Desktop Agent available for Mac or Linux?

The current release is Windows only. Mac and Linux builds are planned for a future release.

Are my books uploaded to Book Binder servers?

Only when you open a book for reading. A copy is cached in your personal Supabase storage bucket so you can read it on other devices. Your files are never read, indexed, or shared with any third party.

How do I update the Desktop Agent?

Download the latest version from the Download page and run the installer over your existing installation. Your library and settings are preserved.

My books aren't showing up after connecting the agent. What do I do?

Make sure the folder path you provided in the agent settings exists and contains supported files. Try clicking 'Refresh Library' in the agent window, then reload your library in the browser.

How do I report a bug?

Open an issue on GitHub. Include your agent version, OS version, and a description of what happened. Screenshots or error logs from the agent window are very helpful.
